Rear main seal replacement

Is there any video or guide to doing an in-car rear main seal on the EX? I got a leak that is getting the gear selector housing all wet, even after the pan was redone. Nothing up too is leaking and the rear main is all that is left that I haven’t replaced with if the last 5k miles.

I tried to avoid this but I think I’m doomed.

I need steps. Never did axles or trans removals. Never did torque converters or flywheels. This is new territory for me.

Help!

Re: Rear main seal replacement

I would be surprised if it's possible without removing either the engine or transmission. I do not think you could get them separated enough to get the flex plate or flywheel off.

Re: Rear main seal replacement

Look up a clutch replacement. Almost the same steps except you'll have the cooler liners, shift cable, and torque converter bolts instead of the manual's shift linkage and clutch hydraulics.
You can either loosen or remove the subframe and pull the trans out the bottom. Or remove the water passage and take it out the top. When i did a clutch and trans on my 05 i pulled it out the top. Manual trans is alot lighter than the auto though

Thanx guys. We’ll see what looks sane. I seen some just move the trans aside, but I think they are full of baloney.

any idea what the shop would bill in hours for it? I may just flag on this one.

I would also say around 6 hours. Maybe 6-8. What's the going hourly rate now? $100/hour?
