04 Civic EX Check engine light came on while driving
my car is a 2004 Honda civic ex coupe
I was driving on the freeway last night and out of nowhere the car felt weird and the check engine light came on
what I mean by “the car felt weird” is that, you know how when you’re driving there is like a subtle vibration that the car makes and that vibration stays consistent? When I was pressing on the gas pedal out of nowhere it kinda had like a weird subtle vibration that wasn’t as consistent, so when I felt that I looked up at the gauges to see what’s going on and the check engine light was on, but I don’t know anything about cars so take this with a grain of salt
but so when I noticed the check engine light came on I exited, there wasn’t a gas station on that exit and it looked very rural so I did a uturn and hopped back on the freeway, I drove a couple miles down at 60 mph, trying to drive as slow as possible til I exited again and pulled into a gas station
at the gas station I popped the hood, there wasn’t any smoke or noise or smells while I was driving and there wasn’t any smoke or smells when I popped the hood
like I said idk anything about cars so I just checked the oil, the oil looked low so I went and bought 2 bottles of oil and poured it in to the car, i checked the oil stick again and now the oil stick was reading in the middle, I turned the car back on, car started fine, the check engine light was still on and I drove back home as slow as I could but there was moments where I had to drive at 80mph due to traffic and tryna merge
I stopped at a gas station halfway home to check the oil again, oil was still reading the same as it did when I poured the 2 bottles, I turned the car back on and continued home
i got home, turned the car off, it was raining so I didn’t check the oil again but if I should go check it, I will
The car’s temperature gauge stayed exactly the same the entire time, even while idling the temperature gauge did not move
what do you guys think the issue could possibly be?
the car should’ve had oil cuz I did the oil change on it myself with my dad and this isn’t the first time I did an oil change so i know I did it correctly, but I did think it was weird that the oil stick was reading so low when I first checked it
I will take photos or videos and will respond to any and all comments, I don’t know what to do

Re: 04 Civic EX Check engine light came on while driving
take to a car parts store, they read codes for free. The engine light can be for a lot of different reasons.
When reading the oil, you need to wait until the oil drains back down after turning off, probably it will be higher than last time you checked.
or have a friend that knows cars check it...
