2001 Civic emissions problems.
2001 Civic emissions problems.
So, I previously purchased a 2001 Honda civic with a JDM D17A. The car had an immobilizer issue so I purchased and ECU that came from a Vtec civic with the matching key cylinder to get it running. I live in California so I have to pass an emissions scan to get the car registered, but the car with the vtec solenoid connected throws a code for no EGR valve. I'm wondering can I purchase a non-vtec ecu and use a VAFC to control the vtec solenoid so I can pass my emissions test? Thanks in advance.
Re: 2001 Civic emissions problems.
Yes pretty much, and what CEL would come on? As long as I disconnect the vtec from the ECU then it should be okay? I just don't want to spend another 100$ to be having the same issue.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: 2001 Civic emissions problems.
Sorry, I messed up, using a non-vtec ECU should yield no check engine lights, but the EGR fault may persist. I'd look at getting that addressed however possible. I don't believe there's any correlation between the EGR and a vtec/non-vtec car. Admittedly, it seems they threw EGR's in whatever cars they wanted - I don't think there's even an explanation for that.
