Good morning all, or afternoon wherever you are. I just picked up a 2001 Civic 4-dr with 140,000 miles for 500$, a steal. The car had an immobilizer issue, so I bought a matched PCM and immobilizer and tossed it in there and boom, it ran. Now the computer is throwing a code for the Vtec, which the car didn’t originally have. Now, the previous owner claimed to put a JDM D17A in the car with vtec, but I cannot find the Vtec solenoid in the back passenger side of the head. Is it possible he just put a block off plate? I’m new to the Honda scene, I just want the car to pass emissions. Thank you in advance!

Re: 2001 Honda Civic precious owner problems
Pics of the engine bay showing the block stamping and lack of VTEC solenoid would be helpful.
easy fix is to just run a non VTEC ecu then it won't be looking for it
It's a VTEC engine. It actually looks like it has a block off plate instead of the VTEC solenoid. I'm not sure why they would do that. Even if the original ECU doesn't work with VTEC there's no reason to remove the solenoid.

Theoretically yes, check in the engine bay for the connector or the cut wires. Grab the solenoid and the connector with as much wiring as possible from the junkyard. Should be able to splice that back on to the remaining factory wiring
