18 Year Old Timing Belt
18 Year Old Timing Belt
Hi guys! I am asking this question for someone else... They own a 2002 Civic sedan DX manual transmission, according to the VIN sticker it was built in 2001, and it was purchased used in October 2018. Its records show that in January 2018 it had the timing belt tensioner checked, but the timing belt (and water pump) were never replaced. The car only has 53k miles on it. Since these cars have interference engines, I think that given the age, this is taking a huge gamble, but the owner thinks the low mileage would take priority over the age. Is driving on an 18 year old timing belt risky?
