???I've got a couple engine questions???

I've got an 05 civic vp 5sp manual the oem engine is a D17a1.
questions:
1) if I did an complete engine swap would I be able to mount a D16y7 engine to my D17a1 transmission I know I may have to fabricate a few new engine mounts but would the block mount to the trans
#2) if I did a complete engine overhaul rebuild and used my factory D17a1 engine what all would I need to replace engine is bad because I purchased the vehicle with a rod knocking we tried to make it home after the purchase and unfortunately significant lost and lack of power and it was best to tow it the rest of the way, I intended on swapping d-17 series engines but my parts car got stolen, so if I choose to do a rebuild I know the connecting rods and a rebuild kit would be necessary but while I have the engine tore down what else would be beneficial to replace

1) Depending on how emissions and inspections go in Ohio, the D16 is not legally allowed in a newer car. Either way, it'd be way too expensive to make work.
2) I'm not sure I understand this question. You wanted to swap engines but you can't now? That's still probably the best course of action but I want to understand what you mean first.

Re: ???I've got a couple engine questions???

Initially I had a 01 Civic Ex VTEC that was my parts car I was going to convert everything over to my 05 Civic VP but unfortunately I drove my 01 one last time and ended up getting it impounded at which time I did a little over a month in jail when I got out my ex had retrieved the car and stolen it now I have an 05 Civic VP with a blown engine and I'm debating rebuilding what I have or my boss gave me a 2000 model Civic for parts if the d16y 7 will bolt up to the transmission I have then the rest is golden motor mounts are simple Fabrications I just don't want to pull the engine and try to put it in unless I know it will mount
up to the transmission

It'll bolt up to the trans, but nothing else will work. You'll need a new wiring harness, ECU, custom mounts obviously, etc. It's more hassle than it's worth imo

What's stopping you from just using the 2000?

The 2000 it is not in the best condition it's also an automatic and there's an issue with the title it's a complete car though so I would have the wiring harness and the ECU and I'm pretty good with a welder the mounts are no issue

And I know it's not recommended due to the legality of it but I don't plan on letting a cop pop my hood to know that my engine is from an older car

So Ohio doesn't have emissions testing?

Cops wouldn't know the difference anyway, but emissions testing would sniff that out pretty quickly.

Yeah, have at it. Hopefully it works out.

Here’s a thread from another forum I’m on. It should help you out.

Re: ???I've got a couple engine questions???

I have pulled a few D17s from the LKQ in Dayton. With a rod knock, I would replace the block with a good one from the junkyard, take the head to a machine shop for cleaning and flattening, new head gasket and timing belt kit. All in for like $500 if you're doing the work yourself.
