manifold/cat replacement
manifold/cat replacement
so i got this car a while ago with a shot manifold , its the one with the cat inside it . rather then spend a insane amount on the stock one i bought one off ebay . and iv been having issues ever since where the car will go into like limp mode and wont idle or accelerate , but clears up if it sits . read somewhere its because i dont have a catylitic converter ? iv cut cats off almost every car iv owned and never had this issue . this is my first honda tho . iv replaced numerous sensors and replaced the exaust and got rid of the stock muffler and resonator so now its just pipe and aftermarket muffler . read somewhere about o2 spacers helping this issue ? any info would be greatly appreciated
Re: manifold/cat replacement
yeah it comes on after it starts messing . been trying to get someone to check it but hes been busy . last time he had the car tho he told me it was still saying p0420 i think it was . couldnt drive it since then so id imagine its the same code . going to try and rig up a spacer tomorrow and see if it works , the company that made the header had a install video on youtube and in the comments i noticed it said if i dont use the spacer ill get cel and limp mode. just seems wierd but if they say so i guess its worth a shot . Its DNA motors or something like that . just cheap amazon .

Re: manifold/cat replacement
Majority of them are ebay sourced, sadly. but plenty of elbow types, not sure if they will fit the civic, so check that before buying

Re: manifold/cat replacement
The original cat was bad, did the guts (internal element, or substrate) break apart? If it did break apart, chunks of the broken cat guts could be in the rest of the exhaust system dancing around, randomly moving and intermittently causing a major flow restriction or blockage inside the pipes/res/muffler. (not clear at what point you replaced any of those)
Got any legitimate reason to do so? My lungs hate you.
iv cut cats off almost every car iv owned
Re: manifold/cat replacement
yeah there was some stuck in my exaust from the old cat , thats why iv cut it all out ( resonator and muffler ) just because i assumed that was my issue after noticing chunks coming out of the tailpipe . now its just exaust pipe and a new muffler but still same issue. minus the chunks there gone lol i didnt exacly look into the pipe from the header to where i cut the resonator off . doesnt seem like anything is plugged anyway tho it runs perfect up untill its warmed up it just falls on its face . then works amazing for another 20 minutes
