Engine Surges When Pressing Brakes
Engine Surges When Pressing Brakes
Good Evening Everyone,
I have suspected a vacuum leak in my engine for a bit now. Today I rebuilt the entire intake assembly with brand new gaskets. But I think I have a vacuum leak because with the car in park and idling, if I press on the brake pedal, the engine surges to a higher RPM and doesn't go back down to idle. Does anyone have a solution for this? Or can guide me to what may be wrong?
Thanks

Re: Engine Surges When Pressing Brakes
Does the idle return to normal when you let off the brake? Or when you drive for a little bit and brake normally? To me the increasing of rpm's sounds normal. When you're idling and you press the brake pedal you are using the vacuum pressure stored in your brake booster so the engine needs to restore this pressure. It does this by increasing the rpm to produce more vacuum to satiate the need of the brake booster
Re: Engine Surges When Pressing Brakes
It does not return to idle. And it is a large jump in RPMs. Like up to 3K I'd say. I also tested my brake booster and that and the check valve are in good working order.
