2001 civic lx. ac compressor is making screeching noise [solved]
2001 civic lx. ac compressor is making screeching noise [solved]
I just had the timing belt and started replaced. but after i picked it up from the shop it was making screeching noise when the AC is on. The mechanic said it's the AC compressor bearing that's going. The noise was only coming on occasionally, and then it went away after driving a while. So I decided not to worry about it.
I haven't used the car in a few days, and today when I started it, the noise came back. And it happens when I have the AC on and when I make a right turn. Could the mechanic somehow have screwed up the AC compressor while fixing the timing belt?

check if the belt is loose, or alternator is cocked or loose bolts
take to another mechanic for a second set of eyes if you can't do it yourself

Belts can be a pain to tighten on these because there is no auto tensioner. The mechanic would have to loosen the alternator, use the wingnut to adjust the tension, then properly retighten the alternator (very important).

update. took it to a different shop that specialize on ac. the mechanic said both the ac/alternator and power steering belts were loose. he fixed both. 50 bucks.

Should have taken it to the original shop and had them fix their mistake. Wouldn't have cost you anything
