Did I buy a knock-off sensor? - solved

I purchased a Denso 234-9005 from ebay $39.99 to fixed a P1166 code, it cleared the code but now I have a P0134 code.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Denso-234-9...oAAOSwz2VegWcg

Now, I admit, the cost seems to much to be true, so did I get a fake?

The reason I question it, as on ebay there are other listing and they are what you would consider more normal prices for them, $125, and it looks as if the boxes/packing are slightly different

Are there knock-off sensors out there?

Swapped the sensor our for Walker Products 350-64055 Oxygen Sensor 4-W Air Fuel Ratio, and the code has cleared, driven 130 miles now, no issues and mpg is now between around 43 to 48 mpg, back to where it use to be.

Re: Did I buy a knock-off sensor?

Thanks, I will have to remove it and inspect it.

The one I ordered did come in a Denso box, just like in the link I posted, it might be possible it was re-boxed though, another possible red flag for mine is that when I check the order history (it was 9 months ago) it says the seller is no longer registered. However, before I purchased, I did check the sellers history and there over 100,000 ratings and had been a seller since 2010, but I thinking something is right, and maybe to good to be true.

Still not the correct brand, unless the walker is a revised Denso, weird

Re: Did I buy a knock-off sensor?

I just purchased an AC Delco primary o2 sensor ($55 Advanced Auto) and installed it on me schweet 2000 Buick Century last week. The old one (original 97k miles) was not throwing a code and I changed it as a maintanence item as they can weaken over time/miles. Anyway, the new one seems to make the engine run slightly rougher than the old one but no CEL code and live data shows voltage output reading is good. This could be the ECU getting used to the new sensor or this sensor may not be made as well as the original?

Re: Did I buy a knock-off sensor?

I read on this forum that some guy had used a Walker sensor with success and they are a quality product, he had used all 3 brands (Denso, NTK and Walker) with great success.

TBH, I got the Walker one on clearance on Amazon Prime for $67, so if it didn't work I could have returned it, and then got the Denso, takes minutes to swap out so thought worth a try.

Walker have 2 models numbers for the upstream A/F sensor (wide band), the one I have, 350-64055 and 250-54013, the specs on their website show them as being the part for a 2003 Honda Civic 1.3 Hybrid, and they also seem identical, I have no idea if these will work with a non hybrid Civic, I believe the Hybrid model differs slightly, I think it has an extra O2 sensor.

I have now driven another 20 miles, and all still no CEL, and it is definitely smoother and back to its old self, one thing I noticed, with the faulty sensor, the instantaneous fuel meter was erratic, with the new sensor it's not, and as I said, my mpg is back in the 43-48 again. With the faulty sensor I was in the 34-38 mpg range.

At 48 mpg I'm happy, and is slightly above average for this model if I'm correct, I'm also lucky that this car is a fun/project car and have 3 other cars to fall back on, so can take risks and experiment a little, if you are not in this position I would go down the Denso/NTK route.
