Hose clamp for Power Steering?

Hey all-

Honda Civic 2001 lx

the hose clamp from the power steering to the rack is a goner. It's the hose that ends up on the Drivers side.

I don't know the pressure its under, but the original clamp was hardcore. I'm wondering what are my options? O'riellys only seems to sell normal clamps?

Re: Hose clamp for Power Steering?

Try OEM at an online Honda dealer. Shipping may make it a bit expensive.

It is possible that NAPA sells the heavier duty hose clamps though. Have you tried NAPA?

Re: Hose clamp for Power Steering?

I just check. it looks like its the return line. From the rack to the reservoir.
Do I need a heavy duty clamp for this? Or can I get away with a normal one from O'riellys?

Re: Hose clamp for Power Steering?

That line is still pressurized but no where near what the high side is. You could try a regular hose clamp and see if it leaks.

Re: Hose clamp for Power Steering?

Looks like it's a spring clamp. You should be able to get away with a worm gear type just fine.

Re: Hose clamp for Power Steering?

It was this totally rusted one I took off.

Idk. quick google around. Not much info no the PSI. It's the return line to the reservoir.
Best numbers I read was could be 400psi but really "A fraction of that"

They're cheap enough online. I'd rather not have to rip the car apart again. winter is coming.
unless anyone knows somfin....

Re: Hose clamp for Power Steering?

Oh damn, looks way different than the parts diagrams make it look. Nevertheless, logic tells me there should be a flare at the end of the tube/pipe it slips onto that helps keep the tube on, and the clamp making sure it stays

That would warrant a trip to the doc's office. OH, power steering fluid. Gotcha.

Re: Hose clamp for Power Steering?

Just went through this repair but ended up replacing the whole PS return hose assembly as it had rotted at this area of the clamp.

The OEM Honda PS fluid I use is a clear/amber not red.
