V-tec
V-tec
So my 02 civic ex to be exact. Why when it hit v-tec i can hardly hear it? Or should i said that I'm not even sure if it goes into v-tec. I know that if i low on oil, the oil is cold and if the solenoid is bad, dirty v-tec screen or if its leaking oil it wont goes into v-tec mode.. I'm leaking a little bit of oil but its not enough to drip on the grown but im not sure. So my question are why it doesn't give that high noticeable pitching sound when it hit v-tec?

Re: V-tec
I’m pretty sure it’ll engage limp mode if you’re low on oil.
VTEC-E never engaged that “hard” anyway. Is this something that’s recently started happening or an observation you’ve made while owning it?

Re: V-tec
The 7th gen civic hits vtec mode at 3200 rpm, maybe 3250 cant remember exactly but ive read about it (because i thought the same thing) and that generation of civic they seemed to be experimenting with a few things, like they were the first to go with mcpherson strut instead of double wishbone suspension on the front, and the vtec comes on earlier to make a smoother power curve and its supposed to be more fuel efficient somehow, the vtec cam lobes only affect the intake valves and not the exhaust, like later ivtec systems which is another thing that makes it less noticeable. The wikipedia article on honda civic explains it all pretty well

Re: V-tec
You guys are talking about 2 different civics. The one OP is talking about is the civics with the SOHC engines. iVTEC and 3200rpm is a K20A3 thing, which is a DOHC engine.

Re: V-tec
my civic is SOHC, D17A2, 1.7. American made. I would like a Pro explains more to me about this civic.

Pretty much everything you’d ever want to know can be found online.
VTEC crossover is relative to throttle position, but Honda regulated it at 2700rpm. I’ve known numerous people with the same engine as you and VTEC crossover wasn’t noticeable. You shouldn’t really be hearing it unless you’re really looking for it.
I should also correct myself and say iVTEC is a DOHC thing, not exclusively a K20A3 thing. I referred to the A3 because it’s the only engine with iVTEC that came in the 7th gen.
