Re: what is this called

It wouldn't have one unless it did have VTEC.

If you have an Ex then you have VTEC.

Not necessarily.
A 98 EX has VTEC, as is evidenced by the fact that you have the valve.

Re: what is this called

Order it online cheaper, or bargain the price with your local dealer since you know what you can get it for elsewhere. See the link I gave in the previous post.

Are you chasing a leak or a code?

If a leak, you may only need the rubber gaskets, they typically harden and get brittle over time and miles. The large gasket with the screen is easily available, and there is another gasket between the coil and spool valve, held with the 3 bolts you see on top. My understanding is that gasket is available for other applications, but I can't tell you which would be the same.

Random pick here is a 95 EX, the gasket #15 is available separately for it.

I can't tell you if it will fit your valve, but list price is only $8 and some change. Might be worth trying it out.

Ok, recheck it for fresh leaks in a few days then. My experience has been that if one of those rubber gaskets was leaking, the other is not far behind it.

Also, I have actually witnessed them leaking only when the engine is cold!
