Squeak on startup
Squeak on startup
Hey all, kind of a smaller issue but like to get a little more info/help before I start getting into fixing it. 2002 civic ex. So I have a little squeak in the accessory belts area of the engine bay. I can’t exactly pinpoint where it’s coming from but it only happens on startup and when the engine is cold. Now it only lasts for a couple minutes and goes away completely. My question is, do you think this is a belt squeak or pulley squeak? The fact that it goes away after a couple minutes is what’s got me a little stumped. Thank you for any input!

Re: Squeak on startup
Probably just the belts, they need to be adjusted once in awhile. You can check the pulleys while you're adjusting the belts. Just give each of them a spin with the belt off. Make sure you tighten the alternator bolts correctly or you'll try the computer
Re: Squeak on startup
Mine does the same thing. I guess if it bothers you and you are worried about the pulleys you can always pull the belts and spin the pulleys see if they spin true or have some friction. Retighten belts when done.
**Edit... I reckon I should have read what Colin42 posted... sorry about that.. didn't mean to repeat. What he said^^
