2005 Honda Civic EX - Code P2646
2005 Honda Civic EX - Code P2646
I noticed a slow oil leak a few months ago that I’ve been meaning to get around to but I haven’t had the chance. I’ve been checking the oil level and adding accordingly to buy me time until I could fix the oil leak.
But then a few days ago when I stopped at a stop sign I heard the engine rattle, struggle to stay on, and finally shut off. I did notice the Oil Pressure and Battery indicator lights illuminate just before the engine shut off.
Luckily I was only a few blocks away from home so I was able to start it up (by turning the key while giving it gas) and get it home. When I got it home, I checked the oil level and realized I had slipped up and forgot to add oil for a bit too long, because it was very very low.
I used my OBD II scanner and got a P2646: “A Rocker Arm Actuator Control System Performance / Stuck Off (Bank 1)”. I’ve been reading around and apparently people have seen this code resolved by changing the oil filter, so I tried that. I’ve also read that the P2646 code corresponds to “VTEC Oil Pressure Switch Circuit Low Voltage” but I was hoping to get some input here first. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Re: 2005 Honda Civic EX - Code P2646
Update:
I thought changing the oil filter didn’t resolve the issue since the engine died out right after starting it, but I guess the oil just needed to circulate because after trying it again and driving it around the block it starts up fine every time now and doesn’t shake like it’s struggling to stay on anymore.
I also erased the codes and it hasn’t come back on yet.
