Vtec oil pressure bypass for a JDM swap
Vtec oil pressure bypass for a JDM swap
I have a 03 lx and did a swap with jdm engine, harness and trans.
i am running an US Ex ecu. I tried to use a jdm but my dealer said it wouldn’t work.
i get a p1259 for vtec and I did some research that says jdm does not use oil pressure switch. Since my harness is also jdm I will assume I don’t have the plug either.
so how do I bypass the safety switch from the harness? Does anyone have a pin out for d17a?
can I just ground out that pin to bypass it?

Re: Vtec oil pressure bypass for a JDM swap
If you just ground it, a different code will pop up as the ECU expects the pressure to drop when it triggers the vtec solenoid.
If you toss a relay in the equation and you should be able to “fake it” by having the relay get power from the vtec solenoid line and having the oil pressure line connected to the N.C. to ground.
Maybe goto a junkyard and pull the oil sender and pigtail off a EX if you want to properly set it up for your ECU .

what code would pop up on it being grounded? Would it still stop me from going over 4k rpm?
and from my understanding it’s not a simple as a sender and pigtail. The forums say the jdm d17 doesn’t even have placement there for the sender. And my jdm harness doesn’t even have it wired. So I would need placement for the sensor, the sending unit. The pig tail and then I would have to run the wire up to the ecu and pin it in.
Re: Vtec oil pressure bypass for a JDM swap
Rewind, the “spot” for the oil pressure sender is on the vtec spool valve assembly itself.
Granted I personally never inspected the “JDM” version of that assembly, but it simply might have a bolt plugging the hole.
Yes, to correctly wire this up you need to run a wire, maybe even swap the assembly itself.
