Car is running/idling very rough, CEL is on (flashing) and has a loss of power. It's done this before and it was the ignition coil on 3. Took to to autozone today to have to codes checked figuring it was another coil, the car has 200k miles. Anyway the tech reading them told me it had 10 codes and all 10 were multiple misfires on 2,3, and 4. Anyone have any suggestions on where to start figuring out the issue with multiple cylinders misfiring? It did recently get very cold here if that could have anything to do with it.
P0300, P0302, P0303, P0304, 2 instances of each, my guess (multiple misfires, cyl 2 misfire, cyl 3 misfire, cyl 4 misfire). What the other 2 codes would be is beyond me. Unless there's 2 logged P0301 codes, as well, then that would be misfire codes on all 4 cylinders
Flashing CEL is definitely misfire. Flashing means it's bad enough that it's deemed "catalyst damaging misfire"
MIsfires.... check your spark, compression, and fuel. Lots of info out there on how to do all three. Any faulty head gasket symptoms lately?
Yeah I hadn't even thought about changing the spark plugs until a friend mentioned last night he assumed I had already done that. Changing the plugs today and going from there.
make sure you double-check the gap, even if the plugs state they're gapped to .044"
also,, compression test isn't hard. Gauge isn't terribly expensive, either. Expensive if you want a shop to do it, for what it is. Last I checked, it was at least $120 for a shop to perform the test. Translating the readings is another story, but you got a forum at your disposal to assist
Changed the plugs, car may run a little better, still misfiring for sure. I did pick up a gauge and set them all to .044. Based on what the plugs look like I'd say the 3 cylinders are running lean. The pic is exactly as they came out of the car left to right, pretty sure cylinder one is the far left one. Time to start checking for fuel and compression. I did just fill up that day or the day before.
Cleared the codes took it back and now its showing misfiring on 4 only. Swapped the coil packs on 3 and 4, problem stayed on 4. Pulled the plug and started the car to verify spark and it is getting spark. Thinking it has to be fuel/injector? I see what you are talking about xRICEBoyx, I spent an hour at least driving back and forth to autozone.
All my injectors are reading the same Ohms so it seems that they are good. Thinking my next step is to swap the injectors between 3 and 4 to see if the problem follows the injector and its clogged.
