Very unlikely any pistons need to be replaced.
Belt breaks, piston bangs into valve(s) which bends the valve and makes a “shiny” spot on the piston.
What kind of repair shop are you getting that quote from?
A used JDM engine should be about $500 delivered, sure I would add in about $400 worth new seals, gaskets and such but then its just labor to take old engine out, move all the parts to the new engine and then install.
