Crankshaft Position Sensor

I have a 2005 Honda Civic Coupe VP 1.7 ltr. Service engine light came on with a code saying the camshaft position sensor was bad. Replace that and then the code for the crankshaft sensor came up, replaced that. Light still on. Hard starting, but the car still starts after 3 or 4 seconds of cranking. Shifting between D3 and drive is erratic and the car will chugg at that time, let your foot off the gas and it shifts and runs fine. I'm getting from the dealerships "It could be this or could be that". 166,000 miles and I'm not going to nickel and dime myself. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor

Just for my own knowledge... exactly what code states the camshaft position sensor is "bad"? P0340 if that is the code you encountered doesn't necessarily mean the sensor is bad. It could also be a wiring/connector problem.

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor

I took it to a local technician who only works on Honda cars and he did think it was a wiring problem because the socket of the connector was wet. They cleaned it out and used contact spray and made sure it was sealed, after running the check the light came back on. They determined since the computer wasn't working properly and suggested I go to the Honda dealership and get a computer upgrade, so I did with the same results. The Honda dealer gave me that it could be the starter, this or that and all the way down the line. He did tell me that their was a service bulletin for the starter with the Accord of the same year but couldn't guarantee that's the problem. I asked him if the computer could be bad and he said it seem to be okay, but it wouldn't take the upgrade. So you can see I don't want to be nickeled and dimed to death. Fortunately I can let the car sit and do some research to see if anyone had similar problems, any advice would help. I recently had the alternator replaced before this issue as well as a blown fuse on the seatbelt restraint system.

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor

This car is known to be a little picky when it comes to sensors.
