Egr question
Egr question
I just bought a 02 civic lx 5 speed. When I looked at engine I saw a egr value however it was unplugged and I did not see a egr pig tail. Now my car passed a emissions test so i know the guy replaced the motor. I'm thinking he took one that had a egr and my car does not require the egr? Any insight be helpful cause if I needed the egr I know my cell be on and I'd fail emissions in Houston Texas. But I passed a d no engine codes

Re: Egr question
Yeah someone dumped a newer motor in there, you car swap that housing that holds the EGR valve with the older style that your car originally came with to get rid of the valve if you want

Re: Egr question
Whomever replaced the engine could have swapped those parts from the original engine, but didn't bother.
It's not hurting anything
If the computer cared about it, there would be fault codes for the EGR.
The computer is ignoring it, you can ignore it too..

Re: Egr question
Or buy a egr block off plate, or make a simple flat plate to bolt on in place of the egr valve that will seal the passages
Or leave alone, it is not causing problems and you cant see it when the hood is shut

Re: Egr question
Yea I'm just gonna leave it on it's not causing problems like ya said. However I did notice on eBay I was looking at a jdm d17a1 and it had a egr and the usdm d17a1 does not. The previous owner said the car had a newish engine. Could this be the jdm version?

Re: Egr question
Some cars/engines/years came with EGR, others did not. I don't even try to remember all the differences anymore
If I really want to know more I'd enter the cars vin into my dealer parts catalog and that gives me some handy info about how your car was equipped from the factory.. (apparently without egr)
Read the engine number stamped on the square pad by the bellhousing. D17A? D17A1? D17A2? Something else?
Replacement engine obviously came from a car that wasn't equipped exactly the same as your car, so if I want to learn more about what car that engine came from , I'd try to locate the VIN tag on the engine, if it has one, and run that thru an identifier or dealer parts catalog, maybe that will help ID what car the engine came from
