Broke my 2nd tensioner spring in 6 months

2001 LX 1.7 SOHV

Bought the car with 208k. Got the water pump/timing belt kit with everything else, new tensioner and spring. Drove about 2000 miles and the tensioner spring broke. Changed the spring again and got maybe 5000 miles and it just broke again. Belt only jumped a little so not catastrophic failure but what am I doing wrong here?

Thx

You not using actual Honda parts would be my guess.

Buy the tensioner pulley set (comes with spring) from a real Honda dealership

Re: Broke my 2nd tensioner spring in 6 months

Lesson learned I guess. I've used aftermarket for tons of other stuff but not worth messing with in this case. Thanks.

I found this video on youtube and the guys mentions the position of the tabs that the pin for the tensioner comes out of. Around 2:48 in the video

Any credence to this claim ?

Thanks !

From what I've read pulling the pin is the last thing that is done. Does that tab and stop come together on their own during operation ?

For your own sake, please refer to a real service manual for installation instructions
