Question Marks on timing belt don't line up. Normal?

Hello again, Civic Gurus! Maybe it's normal, but I'd rather check in before bending valves. Here's the deal:

Whilst removing my cylinder head, I marked the timing belt and its corresponding spot on the cam sprocket. I made sure to get it back on in the same place, which was way more annoying than just putting it back with proper tension. Cam and crank were TDC the whole time.

I got it all set up, rotated the crank pulley a few times, and back to TDC. My mark on the timing belt doesn't line up, but both cam and crank timing marks are at TDC. Did I screw something up? Or does the belt length keep it from being perfectly lined up?

I changed my timing belt a couple of months ago, and it still looks great. I didn't mark the belt and cam then, so I don't know if I messed something up this time around...

but both cam and crank timing marks are at TDC.
This is all that is important.
Read a real service manual for correct information!
The service manual does not tell you to make marks on the belt.

You'd have to spin the engine about 173 times before marks you made on the belt line up again.

I changed my timing belt a couple of months ago, and it still looks great. I didn't mark the belt and cam then,
Then why would you mar..........Nevermind.

Re: Marks on timing belt don't line up. Normal?

Thanks dude! I'm just worried that I'm leaving something out.

Funfact: I didn't realize I had to do the valve seals with the head off, and I already got the head back on... I'm going by the Honda service manual, but I'm still an idiot. I try to supplement with forum lurking, YouTube videos, and posting when I can't find what I need.

Thanks again!

HEY MODS!

Is there a way to either delete this thread or move it to another forum? I was a noob idiot when I posted it in the DIY section...
