Lossing power when pushing the fuel pedal to the floor

I have civic 1.7 LX 2003.
When i push the fuel pedal to the max,The engine RPM never receives more than 5500 RPM, and the car speed barley accelerates.
Automatic transmission stays on the same shift and nevershift up until i remove the padel from the floor ( 3/4 of the pedal)
Any help ? Thanks

Warning lights on? Fault codes?

Engine running problem or a transmission problem?

Hi ezone,
No warning lights and no faults code on ECU,
It acts like misfiring ! Its not a transmission problem

Re: Lossing power when pushing the fuel pedal to the floor

High mileage on the car?

RPM reaches a maximum then the engine makes more noise but power does not increase?
If you back off the gas pedal or ease into the acceleration the RPM can go higher, but if you floor the gas pedal you slow down?

Did this happen all of a sudden or was this a slow progression?

At this point, without a bunch more info and data, I might guess at an exhaust restriction (clogged cat) or an intake restriction.
