HELP ADVICE NEEDED: Driver's Side Engine Mount 01' Civic LX

Hi there,

I have spent several days working on a 2001 Honda civic lx (Canadian).
The dealership busted the engine mount during a timing belt install, but they
blamed it on the age of the car. Now I have purchased the new engine mount OES version, and I am having problems installing it and removing the
previous damaged one.

I have taken off all bolts for the bracket and damaged engine mount, but
cannot get to the bolt beneath the ABS module. From what I read on the internet forums, most/some civics have this module located above the engine
mount and some don't. Unfortunately, mine has the ABS module there and I cannot get to the bolt using my torque wrench.

Is there anyone with experience with this, or can tell me how to get to that last bolt for removing the driver's side engine mount, or on how to remove the ABS module without getting into too much of a mess??

Any help would be much appreciated, the car hasn't been in use for a while, as I had to replace the 02 sensor, spark plugs and now the engine mount, without any previous DIY experience on cars. I really owe appreciation to this site. Thanks!

Re: HELP ADVICE NEEDED: Driver's Side Engine Mount 01' Civic LX

Hey thanks for the post, but I already tried with a long extension. I already got all the
other bolts out, ie. two on the mount bracket and two out on the engine mount itself,
except there is one hard to get to bolt on the engine mount, which is below the
ABS pump module. How can I remove that bolt??? please help someone. Thanks!!!!!

p.s. I read that the civic si and acura el have the same issue as this version of the 01' civic.

A long extension, a 14mm crows foot, and a bit of patience will do the trick

Thank you RICEBOY for that suggestion! I was about to give up and take it to the dealer, but I will give it another try tomorrow, it is a bit late to go to the store and buy that crow's foot today.

Thanks for the pictures as well, it gives me more confidence this could work, I will post tomorrow evening to let you guys know how it went, much appreciated!

Re: HELP ADVICE NEEDED: Driver's Side Engine Mount 01' Civic LX

No problem. I snapped these pictures for another thread (the headgasket/timing belt DIY) and saw you had the same exact predicament. You'll only be able to turn it a little at a time, but with enough patience, it'll come out. Getting the bolt to grab the threads once you're going to reinstall takes a little coaxing, though, just a forewarning.

Come on guys, I just used a ratcheting wrench with a pivoting head. You can turn it at least 1/4 turn at a time. It's way more expensive than a crows foot but, is way handier in the long run.

@ xRiCeBoYx: I like how clean yours is, mine has looked dust colored since I bought it. lol

Yeah, that's about the only time I use 'em.

You can actually see what color the caps on your PS and washer fluid are. lol

Oh, lol.. I give my engine bay a real good wipe down every time I wash my car. That's how my shot shot stays clean.

it's true, mine do have the ABS slightly different position, so did not have the issues you or riceboi had. however taking the alternator bracket was harder....
