New Battery voltage

I recently purchased a new Die Hard battery for my Civic in anticipation for the winter in upper WI. The voltage (not connected) was 12.5V. I put it on my trickle charger and it began float charging after only 20 mins. It now measures about 12.6V.

Although 12.6V is considered a good battery, isn't a BRAND NEW battery supposed to be closer to 13V? My current Interstate battery isn't bad really, but when load tested it seemed a little weak. O'reilly Auto said the same thing when they tested it.
