I 2005 civic manual ecu
was in the process of removing my ECU when I heard a rattling noise coming from inside. I opened it up to find a chip loose. This bring me to my 3 questions. What exactly is this chip for? What can cause it to dislodge itself? Can it be resoldered?

Re: Rattling Ecu
Was there anything wrong with the car that made you remove the ecu? If you know how to solder and it looks repairable to you I would try it. Way cheaper than getting another ecu and getting it programmed
The car would stall when I use my headlights along with random electrical problems like my radio turning on and off, fan turning on when I use power windows ect. Through my research all symptoms pointed to a grounding issue. I was in the process of replacing my wire harness because mine was badly corroded. Was removing the ecu to make room to thread the harness through the cabin. That's when I realized the rattling from inside the ecu.
That looks like a power transistor.
First thoughts would be it started to fail and overheated enough to self-desolder itself.
If you were able to get a new exact replacement part, it would be tricky to solder the underside correctly but doable if you pre heat the part up in a toaster oven before placing it on the board which you already had the solder tab turned into a pool.

What are the chances of an ordinary computer repair shop
being able being able to handle the repair?
try to fix? if works, good, if not, some few bucks lost...
car-parts.com (scrapyard database) - remainder that the ECU will need to be reprogrammed to the keys, so use the ECU until you get to dealer. Seems that some key companies can also program the ecu.
ECU depends on engine EX (Si in Canada) have different ECU. Auto and manual trans also differ. 2003+ uses wide band O2 sensor, so that will use different ecu too.
