I think i damaged car when trying to jumpstart dead battery

I was trying to jumpstart the dead battery in my 2002 civic, since it was sitting for a month with no use and it was past 5 years old. The battery was showing a lot of corrosion on the terminals. Cleaned it and put some terminal prtector. I jumpstarted the battery and it was good, even drove it around for a bit. After a couple hours it was dead again. So i jumpstarted it again but this time there was some smoke and it made some weird clicking sounds, so i shut it off.. i went ahead and got a new battery because it was time anyways.. but nothing. No crank, clicks or any type of noise or lights. Completely dead.. should i try to jumpstart new battery? If i did do damage to my car, what are the most likely affected parts and does anybody know around how much am i looking at to fix it? Thanks.
