can somebody tell me how to disconnect my battery? LOL J/K

now seriously.....im going on a two week vacation and leaving my car parked at the airport the entire time, im thinking about disconnecting the battery while its parked before i leave, good idea or no?....i would hate to come home to a dead battery

is the draw from the radio etc enough to drain my battery in this time?

Why, certainly!
Call the Fire Department, they can disconnect the battery for you with a set of these:

now seriously.....
*I* was serious. I thought you were too!

Have you ever seen how the Fire Department disconnects the battery in a burning car?
HINT: See above pics

Wouldn't be a half bad idea IMO.

Not normally, assuming the battery is in tip-top condition and has a full charge (measuring the specific gravity of the electrolyte).

However...... If the battery is in marginal condition or just partially charged, even though it sounds just fine when you crank it each morning, it may be enough of a drain to be a problem 2 weeks in the future.

I can hear it now....*Click* *Click* *Click* "DAMN!"

the battery is fairly old (4 years) but still has good readings (high 12 volts) when sitting.....i guess i might as well disconnect it, its not like it takes alot of time Lol

Esp when it's down on electrolyte with a slowly failing alt... battery can easily develop a surface charge as it gets older. You'll get 12VDC when not under load... but load it with a 70A+ starter, and it falls on its face.

Sometimes filling the cells with distilled helps the problem, but not if the alt is flaking... which also points to the importance of the alt's mounting bolts.

Easiest solution is a new battery if you have the cash... but without proofing the rest of the charging system it's gonna happen again fast.

Oh -- and I just picked up one of these from WalMart: link

Pretty brainless. plug in, hook it up in your garage, choose AGM and 15A, and let it do the rest. $40 online; bought it to maintain my bike batt but it'll also charge my 7th gen batt if need be.

Re: Battery disconnect ?

thanks for the info,

to be honest i dont really check my battery all that often, i never have in the 4 years until i put a voltmeter on it the other day for fun, it is actually a cheap "discount" battery, so after 4 years it doesn't owe me anything,

never needed a boost or had a problem starting one time, i guess i will just disconnect it and hope for the best......Lol
