Flashers flashing, inside dash flashing -- car starts fine

Hello. This is my first post on this forum and also my first Honda purchase. I bought a 2003 Civic EX for my sons first car. The car runs fantastic. Just recently when we put the key in the ignition and start the car, all the lights begin flashing....its like the panic switch was pressed on the remote, but the horn doesn't sound. Now if I turn on the headlights the flashing stops. When we turn off the vehicle, the vehicle lights continue to flash for about 15 seconds and then all the lights turn off. Did we inadvertently hit a button to cause this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just to be clearer, the parking lights and dashboard lights alternate blinking. I'm not receiving any warning lights on the dash, i.e., oil, engine or battery.

Paul

That's a nice first car :-)
How old is the car battery? The electricals get all wonky sometimes if the battery is going.
Did you check both fuse boxes? One might be in its death throes.
Are you in Canada? If so, the daytime running lights could be malfunctioning.
Maybe the remote is stuck on "unlock"? Try removing the remote battery and see if that does anything.
Of course, check all vehicle wiring for corrosion and connectivity as well!
