2002 civic relay issues
2002 civic relay issues
I have a 02 civic that the heater fan and radiator fan do not come on. For some reason the neutral safety switch appears to be affected as well. If i apply a ground to the blower motor for the heater I get full heat all the time the car is on. I have been told there is some mystery relay that is a pain to get to under the driver side kick panel up under a brace. Is there anyone who knows what I am talking about or am I just way confused?

Lower the glovebox take out the cabin filters. Turn the fan switch to mid, then while watching the white plastic fan blades turn the key to II......
Does the fan spin for a very short time when key reaches II ??

Re: 2002 civic relay issues
^^ When it runs a short time like that... the you likely have an open thermal cut off (TCO) on the transistor unit. (if the cabin filter is neglected then the air flow drops and tco opens)
The transistor unit is easy to swap out.... if you know someone with electrical skills you can get a 114 degree C tco and replace the open one.

Re: 2002 civic relay issues
It is in the passenger footwell side, near the blower (the blower fan cools this device when in use) Has a 4 pin connector (push release tab to disconnect)

^^^^ I would not try the test in attachment... But 2 screws and 1 connector is all that is required to replace transistor. And check your cabin filter to make sure it is not plugged up.
Edit: Great shot of transistor. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...37208222171812
