2020 Civic 1.5 oil dilution?
2020 Civic 1.5 oil dilution?
Shucks, I was all set to go out and test a 2020 turbo hatchback which just looks great from what I've seen. Then, boom. I find comments about the oil dilution issue with the 1.5 turbo. Is that still an issue with the 2020 version or has that finally been resolved. Could not get a straight answer from a dealer that I called about it. Anyone have a 2020 1.5 turbo? What has your experience been so far with regard to the oil dilution issue?

Civics, too, primarily in colder climates.
I have a 2018 Sport Hatch 1.5T. Haven't seen any oil dilution issues.

This problem may or may not be resolved, near as I can figger from my surfing. There is a good reddit thread titled '2020 Civic hatchback 15T oil dilution.' I am keen to follow this subject as I may be buying one in about a week.
Re: 2020 Civic 1.5 oil dilution?
Honda has increased the warranty on affected vehicles, unlimited mileage 5-7 years (cant remember exact increase).
It's a unfortunately common issue, I've seen 3 that were vary bad (could not be operated) and get a moderately bad one every month, through the oil shop.
when they say "cold" it's not that cold, 5-15°C. We're not talking like Alaska cold, just regular Fall temperatures.
You will probably be fine if you buy one, but may have a hard time selling it later, if issues get worse for the majority of the 1.5L s.

Re: 2020 Civic 1.5 oil dilution?
I found out about the dilution problem AFTER I bought my 2017 hatchback. I don't seem to have any symptoms yet. Just bought it a week and half ago from a private party. He did say he JUST changed the oil. I contacted him last night to ask if he was aware of the issue or experienced any of the symptoms(gas smell, high oil readings on dipstick). He said he never had an issue. I'm going to find out from dealer if the software upgrade was completed on my car, and/or is it necessary. Maybe I should trade it in on a 2020?
Re: 2020 Civic 1.5 oil dilution?
I would give it some time. Put 5-10k miles on the fresh oil and see if you notice anything. You can also send in some oil and get it tested, Blackstone-Labs.com tested mine.
Re: 2020 Civic 1.5 oil dilution?
The dealer said that the software fix was applied to the car in January 2019. I will get an oil sample checked when it is due, and see what the results say. Thanks for your help.
