A/C question from new owner, 2020 EX Coupe [solved]
A/C question from new owner, 2020 EX Coupe [solved]
I just became the second owner of a 2020 EX Coupe with 33,000 miles and had not bought a used car in the last 40 years. Unfortunately, I didn't notice an A/C problem until a couple of days after delivery. The driver side vents dispense frigid cooling commensurate with the A/C setting (although a few degrees higher than my 2019 CR-V Touring at the same settings), but the passenger side vents do not. The passenger vents blow air, but do not noticeably cool it, and they seem to be producing lower CFM than the driver side. The car still has about 6 months of warranty left, so I will take it to the dealer for repair but would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem, and how it was resolved.

re: A/C question from new owner, 2020 EX Coupe [solved]
I took the car to my local Honda dealer, where the service advisor confirmed the problem, then scheduled an appointment for shop diagnosis. I showed up for the diagnostic appointment, and as I was waiting in the vehicle queue, I took a long look at the A/C controls and noticed that the big **** on the right end was labeled SYNCH. It seemed odd that one would have the option to turn the passenger A/C off, when there is no separate temperature control and the passenger is virtually shoulder-to-shoulder with the driver, but I pressed the ****, and voila! cold air issued from the passenger A/C vents. I have had cars with multi-zone climate control, but they were minivans, SUV's or large sedans, so it never occurred to me that my little coupe would need a method of turning off the A/C to the adjacent seat. So, problem solved, thanks to my amazing powers of observation.
Re: A/C question from new owner, 2020 EX Coupe [unresolved]
I spoke too soon. Pilot control error was a real solution to one HVAC problem, but I recently duplicated the real problem: heat down to 60 deg. on the temp control display, then cold air blasting at the next step (end of the control range), when the display reads COLD. It's reasonable to assume there is a problem with the HVAC blend door or its actuator, but I've never had this problem on another car, so I'm wondering if it's a common weak point on the 2020 Civic? The car only has about 33k miles on it.
