2020 or 2021 civic coupe in my future

My husband will be buying his new accord on Friday. My new car will be later this year or next year. I am planning on the Civic Coupe because I love the civic. I am very happy to have found these forums.

We are in Colorado so will most likely be purchasing from Ralph Schomp if they have an ex in stock that is not red or black.

what do you love/hate about your Civic Coupe?

Re: 2020 or 2021 civic coupe in my future

Don't have a coupe, I have an '18 hatch and I love it. Was a coupe guy before (came from an 02 ex coupe)

My roomie used to have a 17 EX-T coupe until he wrecked it. He was looking at getting another coupe, but he really liked my hatch, so he replaced his 17 coupe with a 20 hatch

Effectively the same engine in both, however, only difference is I have a Sport hatch, so it has a different knock sensor that does some wizardry to give me an advantage when I use 91 octane vs 87 octane. Definitely not a placebo effect, because on top of feeling the slight difference, empirical numbers using OBD telemetry and the on board MPG meter showed me the difference.

Personally, I couldn't care less for the Honda sensing package because I'm on the side that believes that stuff makes someone too complacent behind the wheel. Again, just personal preference.

I've heard good things about the new infotainment system after they included a volume ****, but still has its problems linking to phones, issues with the head unit itself (though, semi few and far between, but enough to mention) -- freezing, laggy, shutting down due to heat, etc. I saw my buddy's 16 EX-T infotainment shut down due to heat and wouldn't come back on until his car cooled enough. I live in Vegas, however, so that should give you some insight. I have had zero problems with my no-frills color audio head unit.

Thanks so much for all the info! On your two posts I have a lot to digest.

As for heat, we may hit 100 six times a year so hopefully won’t have to worry about that!

So...will the 2021 be a new generation ?

The 10th gen coupes look WONDERFULL. If I was not going to give my car away to my kids... I would buy a coupe.

Not sure of a model change (11th gen, or still 10th)

Myself, not a fan of the turbo. Only engine available for EX trim now (originally you could get the 2 ltr) For EX, But have to test drive the turbo 1st though.

The next generation of civic starts with the 2022 models. The 2020 and 2021 models will be pretty much identical.

thanks for the info, that makes me very happy. Saw an old sports coupe yesterday at a dealership. I didn’t open it up but it looked fantastic to me. We are hoping to be able to buy in September.

2.0 turbo or the 1.5 turbo? The 2.0 is pretty quick.

2.0 I do believe. It is quick and beautiful inside and out. Our old accord is now our sons car. It is the 2010.

Damn, I didn't realize they stopped making accords with V6's. Those engines were awesome.

Re: 2020 or 2021 civic coupe in my future

The 2.0 turbos are pretty cool too, just a de-tuned Civic Type R engine. I think it is actually a little slower than the previous gen with a V6 but the amount of low end torque is phenomenal. It makes 273 lb-ft at 1,500 RPM making it feel faster and can still get low to mid 30's MPG.

That's respectable for sure. I'm surprised it's able to spool that quickly. If only they turbo'd the V6...

I read about that somewhere, but I just stopped caring about Acura cars after they stopped making manuals

Re: 2020 or 2021 civic coupe in my future

Saw a coupe R the other day. Loved it but don’t want to spend that much on a car. Did see a coupe (not sure of trim) briefly the other day too and loved it. My ex will be a 1.5 liter but turbo should still be pretty fast. Hoping for September or October to purchase.

Re: 2020 or 2021 civic coupe in my future

CVT? Nissan's been hit-or-miss since Renault bought them. My buddy's been pretty loyal to Nissan (he's had a slammed D21, Pulsar, 6-Speed Maxima (only saying that because of how rare they are), and he's now onto his '19 370Z) and he's had no issues. Mind you, they've all been manual and relatively well-maintained. Civic's have a sportier design than Sentra's, for sure (but the SER is actually pretty cool). Not sure what year your Sentra is but another friend bought a '16 Sentra 6-Speed and it's no racecar but it's very economical and does its job very well.

I'm going to guess you opted for the CVT which is why you're so disappointed. The Renault/Nissan CVT is garbage. In manual form, they're pretty good.

The 1.5T is fine. Not a racecar in stock form by any means, but it's quite respectable. It'll have substantially more power than the Sentra.

Haven't heard anything bad about the new Honda CVT's, but that's something Rice can provide more info on.

Re: 2020 or 2021 civic coupe in my future

So far, so good. For us modders, can't handle as much torque as the MT can, but still has some get up and go. Only issues I've ever heard of the Honda CVTs "blowing up" or going bad is when people have custom tunes, pushing far more boost than they should. I've been running an off-the-shelf 21PSI tune (KTuner) for almost 20k miles and no problems. It's bittersweet having this CVT. I loved my MT, and I wanted an MT for this one, but they were super hard to find, so I took a CVT for a test drive to get a feel for the car. I was pleasantly surprised with it. Best thing about the CVT is how it'll keep me in peak torque band during acceleration, so I'm getting the most out of it. Picks up super quick, especially with this tune

I had a Nissan Altima for a rental once during a business trip, I think it was like a 2016 model. It had a CVT, hated it. Compared to my 2016 Civic CVT it is a night and day difference.
