Replace CVT?
I have a 2014 Civic with only 27,000 miles, I noticed a chattering sound that occurs at any speed, but goes away if you slip it into neutral.
The dealer asked if they could change the transmission fluid to check for metal shavings. They reported that the existing fluid was "burned" and probably damaged the transmission.
They can't tell me what exactly is broken, they are only recommending a transmission replacement for $7000. Also the sound became louder after they changed the transmission.
How can i find out what is really wrong with the transmission and if it can be repaired?
Thanks!!!

Re: Replace CVT?
Thanks, interesting. Is there a known issue with these transmissions?
I have owned 5 Hondas over the last 40 years prior to this one and always found them the most reliable cars.
Also the dealer mechanic said that I could ignore the noise and skip replacing the transmission, since it wasn't going to leave me stranded.
Not sure how he could say that if he did not know exactly was was wrong with the transmission.
Has anyone just let these transmissions keep going once they start making noise?
Thanks!

Re: Replace CVT?
27,000 miles is definitely premature even for these transmissions. They were never the smoothest but it shouldn't be damaged yet.
I'd let it go until failure and then reevaluate.
