Hello everyone, I made a big mistake with my 2016 Civic Touring. I was attempting to replace the engine oil but I mistakenly drained all of the transmission fluid and refilled my engine with 4 extra quarts of oil. I drove the car for about 20 seconds before it completely stopped. I corrected my mistake and the CVT seems to have a delay whenever shifting from park to reverse or drive. Have I completely messed up the transmission from 20 seconds of driving? And is that enough time to mess up the engine while it has too much fluid?

Are you sure it hasn't been this way since it was brand new?
They DO delay engagement, sometimes it feels like several seconds of delay, under some conditions as a self protection measure.
Better compare to an identical car before you decide yours has a problem.

It used to have a delay of about 5 seconds, now it has decreased to a less noticeable number but you can definitely tell there is a delay. We bought the car about 2 weeks ago with 50k miles and it was beautiful before I messed it up. I actually have owned a few of these civics in a lower trim as projects and even those shifted immediately

Yes, although the delay is not as much as it was when I first drove the car after my accident, there is still a slight delay. I want to know if this is really something to be concerned about and if there is a way to improve the delay

I believe it should be implied from reading the original post that there is a larger delay from when the car was purchased to after a few days of fixing my error.

Really? Each and every one of those project cars was equipped with Hondas 1.5 turbo engine and next gen CVT transmission?
I'm sorry, I did not realize "identical" would be such a difficult concept.

What kind of fluid did you put in the transmission?

I have owned the 2016 EX-T, and the 2017 EX-L before this one, both of which are the exact same as the touring mechanically. The transmission fluid used was HCF-2. But it's fine I just replaced the CVT yesterday and now it shifting in less than half a second compared to 2 seconds. Also if someone needs genuine help with something regarding their car, you probably should stay far away from giving them advice.

That begs the question: Why did you post about it anyway?

Since you are a newbie here, let's just lecture you about one thing:
He solved some almost impossible issues in here, from an internet distance.
He works on cars all day everyday. He just don't have patience with people that already had replaced the part but still posts questioning about it....

I believe it should be implied from looking at his "Rep Power", legitimately received in this forum that few people actually gives rep points when they have their issues solved by a member.
