Hi Guys,

I just bought my Honda civic hatch back 2 weeks ago.

When I change to reverse, I can feel it takes 1-3 sec to change it. Also i can hear the sound and shock.

My Honda accord 2015 never had this problem. Is this normal? Or is it transmission problem?

Please help!

Make sure you are completely stopped before trying to change directions. If you are still rolling when you throw the shifter, they don't like it.

The couple seconds of time lag when shifting into a gear immediately after startup is probably about average for the CVT...it may take some getting used to.
(after 4 years and 4000 different cars, I'm still not used to it LOL)

After this initial occurrence, engagement time is fairly reasonable IMO until the engine is shut off again.



I'll suggest you go to the dealers lot and test drive a couple other identical brand new Civic Hatchbacks (or at least Civics with the turbo engine and CVT) for comparison.

Unless yours is dramatically different from those, I'd assume it's normal operation. If it's very different, consult the dealers service department.

I have this same issue and I complained to Honda corporate and they state that it's not an issue and the dealership can't replicate the issue. This happens to me all of the time, especially on the cold, first moving of the car in the morning.

I have the same issue and shock with my 2021. Did you ever figure out the issue and did it ever get worse?

It's still under warranty, take it to the dealer if you think something is wrong.
