Misfire cylinder #2 p0302
Misfire cylinder #2 p0302
Hi, this is my first post. Car popped the P0302 code for misfire on cylinder 2. I just replaced all the spark plugs and coil packs in September of last year as the car had misfire on multiple cylinders. I just did a few basic checks and unplugging and swapping coil packs changed the tone of the engine on every cylinder. I checked my spark plugs and they look good. The car has about 133k miles on it. To my knowledge a valve adjustment has not been performed. (I bought the car used at 70k). Could a valve adjustment fix the issue? If so does anyone know the clearance specs for the valves? Thanks ahead of time.

They should be fine then,
valve adjustment wouldn't hurt. The specs used to be under the hood on the emissions sticker. Not sure on the newer cars

Ok cool thanks. If my coils and spark plugs are good and my injectors seem to be fine. It sounds like from what you’re saying is that a valve adjustment won’t get rid of the misfire? What else could cause this?

Re: Misfire cylinder #2 p0302
It might, it might not. Could be the injector, burned valve, lack of compression, etc.
you've swapped coils and plugs cylinder to cylinder and it stays on 2?

Update: I just did a cylinder compression test. Readings are as follows.
Cylinder 1: 71psi
Cylinder 2: 75psi
Cylinder 3: 65psi
Cylinder 4: 70psi
Im not sure if these are in spec or not, I couldn’t seem to find the spec. If someone could tell me what the spec is and also what the possible issue is if they are out of spec. Thanks

That compression is horrible. It should be more than double that. Are you sure you had the gauge threaded in the whole way?
I don’t know the exact figure but it should be 160-ish from factory.

I’m pretty sure it was threaded in all the way. I’m not sure if I did the test correctly however. I thought you could do it just cranking the car. But a buddy told me you’re supposed to floor the gas pedal when performing the test.

The throttle is supposed to be open, and all the plugs out
try again. Might want a battery charger hooked up to make sure the battery doesn't get weak from all the cranking
