2017 hatchback sport, fuel guzzler?

I picked up a used 2017 sport hatch a couple months ago expecting to save some money on my gas bill. I wasnt expecting to be sipping fuel like a prius but I cant seem to get more than 450km( 280miles) out of a tank. my economy indicator says im at 6.5-7liters per 100km (33-36mpg) I even did a tank on the highway left cruise control to 100km/h and just ran it till i got the gas light which got me maybe 2 extra miles. this seems to fall excessively short of what I should be getting. the numbers make it seem like I barely have a 10gallon tank, which seems odd

You have a 12.4 gallon tank. If the low fuel light is on it's fairly normal to only put in 10 gallons. How much are you putting in when filling up?

I can't comment on the hatchback but our sedan Touring usually gets 350-400 miles and then is filled with around 10 gallons (so 35-40 mpg). Probably 75% back roads/highway and 25% city.

I only really know in liters about 43 liters when i fill. if you do the math 43 even at 7 iters per 100k i should be going 600km a not 450. it seems to be consuming 9.5 ish liters per 100km when i look at what im actually getting on the odometer which is like 24.5 mpg

do all the maintenance items such as air filters, oils, fluids, etc. Have you done it?
take to a mechanic

finally, most of high consumption cases we see are either no-maintenance done or driving habits. There was one guy that would idle for an hour to keep the heater working while parked asking why he did not get enough mileage.

Finally, moved your thread to proper location on the forums

Re: 2017 hatchback sport, fuel guzzler?

I've been driving my 2018 sport hatch a bit fuel efficient friendly lately, been getting 32.5-33 mpg on my dash. Calculated at the pump (trip a odo reading/gallons filled = calculated mpg -- I never top off), is usually .5mpg less than indicated. Fuel light usually comes on at 300-320 miles, gallons pumped is, on average, about 10.2 gallons. I'm also tuned to 21psi and push it every so often

Quick question. You filling up with regular or premium?

Re: 2017 hatchback sport, fuel guzzler?

Im filling with premium because thats what the owners guide recommended. im just frustated that what im getting and what it says im getting seems to be quite different! I was reading somewhere that some of the civics end up with fuel getting into the oil, could that lead to me not getting the efficiency I should be? I dont know if mine has that issue. I dont plan on running outside and checking at minus 20c (-4f) but its always been in my experience that if a car is losing a 3rd of its range something is off. even my 2003 honda civic was delivering 500 to 600km on a bad day that car had quite a bit of drag at highway speeds (plastic parts warped after one particular summer day one of my neighbours windows reflected the sun in just the right way to **** up my fender. I moved it as soon as i noticed. after a few more hours with the car no longer in the way, it ended up melting some of the asphalt as it approached mid day and the temperatures got higher.

You can take it back to a Honda dealer, you have a warranty for a reason.
