Here read this:
overfilling your tank can ruin your gasoline-vapor recovery equipment. The recovery canister is supposed to store gasoline vapors rather than release them into the atmosphere. But if you overfill the tank and liquid gas sloshes into the canister, it will stop working, contributing to the formation of ground-level ozone, smog, acid rain, and airborne toxins.

Too much fuel is when you keep pumping past when the fuel nozzle clicks.

Rep Power: 787 good thing I only get 1/2 tank normally. You get more gas mileage since the car weighs less anyway. Just fyi, 1 gallon = 8lbs.

Rep Power: 375 in other words you could fail emissions. i've even seen some people get a CEL becuase their canister is shot and they have to buy a new one.
not to mention filling "to the brim" is a bad idea. gas can expand.

Rep Power: 0 sorry to thread hijack... this is just too coincidental...
wow, that's funny... i had a '91 shadow before and that thing went down in a blaze... well, not really... i was lucky enough to make it to a chik-fil-a parking lot, run inside to steal their extingusher and put it out.
it had a fuel/oil leak under the throttle body that dripped and collected into a pool on the transmission housing... well, when the approprate conditions were met, UP IT WENT!!
anyway, to make a long sory short, i drove it around uneventfully for a couple more days after that before i traded it in for $1650... that and a $250 cash down payment got me my '01 vic.

aside from that, you look like you're saying you top off the tank. read the thread please, and then you'll be educated.

Rep Power: 0 yeah, what he said. I always make mine even in the .10. but .25 is fine. just no more than that. I always see people pumping again and again, only to damage their cars. I dont feel I should enlighten them, cuz around here they could enlighten me with a gun, lol.
