blkcivic is talking about painting the inside of the headlight, tinting is a whole other thing entirely...personally, I wouldn't want to tint my headlights, I need my lights as bright as I can get them.

I used to just paint the chrome with flat black automotive paint (Motomaster from Craptastic Tire). But I found if even one speck of dust got on, it would cause little flecks where paint didn't stick on. I now do one of several things when blacking out people's headlights, depending on what's at hand:

1) sand with 400-grit sandpaper before painting, clean off the dust, then apply the flat black paint
2) primer (2 coats) then flat black
3) high-heat barbecue paint (works so well!!!!) THEN flat black automotive.

When I do step 3, and the car is black, I add a couple coats of Duplicolor graphite wheel paint on top of the flat black to give it a nice sheen...just an idea I learned on a black 1.6 blackout session last month.
