OT: severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS) You guys probably heard the new SARS sickness that was brought from China, Hong Kong and Vietnam.
My point to this thread is, some people are cruel and just plain stupid.
I live in Canada, and if you read the newspaper there was a old woman that died at a age after coming back from Hong Kong, and then her son died a week later. This two people, are the mother and brother of my mom's co-worker. And my mom's co-worker obviously havn't been going to work since he is afraid he might spread it to his co-workers.
There are about 20 or so chinese people working for my mom's company including my mom. After beginning of this incident (before the brother died), all the white co-workers they start making jokes such as: "Oh stay away from me, I don't want it to spread to me too" to my mom and some of the other chinese people at work. I mean I understand it is a joke, but I know at an extend, they mean it. That's just stupid. And after the brother died, all the white people started to freak out, they sent literally 4 memos out asking for someone to come and visit their work place and see if it is still save to work and all that. And they also treat my mom and other fellow chinese workers as if they don't exist. Maybe not as bad as that but for sure my mom felt that. But they understand, they understand they worry and stuff and try to avoid contact with them and stuff, but it's just me that thinks it is wrong.
THis just shows they don;t have common sense, and they don't have any heart. I mean, one of ur co-worker's Mom and Brother died wihtin 2 weeks, not only did you not feel sorry for him but you also do stupid things like that, which makes your other co-workers feel uncomfortable.
What I mean by they don;t have common sense is the fact that, it takes max 10 days for SARS to show its symtoms, and if after 10 days you don't show taht symtoms that means you don't have it. My mom's co-worker had been on leave for more tahn 10 days now, so if any of them had got SARS with them, they would have some kind of symtoms by now, which means there is nothing to worry for them. Also, they are able to control SARS, if you notice you ahve SARS symtoms early, then they can control it, people die because they go to the doctors too late (since the symtoms are very similar to a normal cold, so people don;t realize they have SARS before it is too late). ....when the people (experts about SARS) came to my mom's company and held a Q and A kinda thing (since ppl are so paranoid about it, I mean what difference does it makes?) some people asks "Oh my mom plays with a Korean in school, is that a BIG problem?"i mean WTF IS thTA? what kinda quesiton is taht? THey have no common sense I swear, what does Korean have to do with people from HK, CHina and Vietnam? STUPID! and one person go." OH if anyhting happens, I am going tob e the one that die first since I sit beside HIM (my mom's co-worker) everytime!"........*sigh*....
anyways...I just think they are cruel, not only did dthye not feel pity or at least talk to my mom's co-worker and see if he is ok mentally....but they also do stupid things like that...
I mean it is just my mom's company...I know not everyone are like that...I mean my company is perfectly fine...my manager had a relative that came from HK just recently, and no only did people not do stupid things but they also worry about my manager. THey kept telling him to look for the symtoms and becareful and everything. No one ever panic about it coz they know there is no reason to panic and even if somethign happen, you cna't really prevent it anywyas. I eman it's just common sense and it's just being human.

My dad's in HK right now ... I am so worry about him .. 
will call him tonight to tell him not to go to public places ...
SARS sickness has high spread ability and you can get ill just by talking / doing normal daily works with someone who has the virus ... although Health department claims that the virus is under control but still it's very dangerous.

There was a Cathay Pacific plane that came from HK last night and the custom people refused to examine those people ... and eventually all those people are sent to another room and examined/questioned by doctors / nurses before they could leave the airport ... I think it will remain for a while until the this sickness is FULLY under control ...

Like I understand it is a big deal and it is scary, but if they have some common sense, they would know that they are save already, since it takes 10 takes for the symtoms to shows, and it is like more than 2 weeks now...and they are not dead yet...so why are they like still staying away from my mom and other chinese?
BUt still, if it was my friend's family who died because of this, I don't care, I still go and see if my friend is ok. I mean yes it is bad, and yes there is a possibility taht my friend might has it...but still...I mean it is my friend...at least a phone call right? ..they act like tehy are blaming the chinese ppl in teh company for bring this ....so stupid..... ..I understand it is scary but what can you do?..there is nothing uyou can do to prevent it..as long as you are healthy, ususally uo won't get it..just like a cold...if you are strong (in terms of your health), you shoulnd't get it...but you can't prevent taht anyways......all you can do is ..notice the symtom early and it should be ok.... if it is something you can't prevent..why are you doing all these stupid things?.....
oh well..yeah....Becareful...tell ur dad to do check up RIGHT away if he ntoice and symtoms..

Most patients have a fever of about 101 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius), coughing and shortness of breath. Other possible symptoms include headache, muscular stiffness, loss of appetite, confusion, rash and diarrhea.

Come on, a contagious disease is something to be active about.
True that the disease comes from a few Asian countries, but if those white smart asses used their brains, they would realize that it would only spread from individuals who recently returned to Canada from those countries. This means that if they have seen their co-workers at work in the last coupla days, then they are harmless. The only ones that do have some level of risk are those that did come in contact with that particular woman co-worker. This obviously means that the white asses themselves are as equally susceptible to the disease as the asians in the company, and the white asses themselves are as equally likely to be the vectors to carry and spread the disease.
Disclaimer: when I mean white asses, I do not limit the reference to only the caucasians.. I refer to those who react negatively towards the prejudiced as stated in Spidey's post.

yeah I guess they can be paranoid but just not being prejudice....
But anyways...10 days already passed so thye shoulnt worry...even that...person who came to my mom's work...to explain the issue said....the symtoms shows max in 10 days after you got it....so......
yeah I know...just those ppl in my omom's work.....I know many other white people that are so nice and eveyrthing..even my work place....so yeah..
