I heard that if we change our own oil it voids the warranty, but I could be wrong.
You know how they are at the dealers and all, they say everything voids the warranty, but I heard this elsewhere.
hehe good luck

Hey guys FYI about your oil changes:
Your car warranty is not something the dealership can just turn on and off as they feel. There are laws set by the US and Canadian governments making it illegal for them to refuse to do work. They have to be able to prove that something you have done has not been up to the minimum requirements set by them. For example, you put a custom exhaust on your car. You no longer have a warranty for the exhaust but if you have a tranny problem. They cant say no to it being under warranty. If you ever have a dealership who refuses to service something because he/she claims you have voided the warranty they are required to prove in writing and state direct facts backing up their claim. If you feel you are being gyped advise them you will see them in court and go here .Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan-Free
That is a free website from the goverment where you get neutral arbitration on the issue. Also If you are having a re-occuring warranty problem there are anti-lemon laws out there that can force the dealership to return the original sale price of your vehicle , or replace it at YOUR choice. They vary from state to state and province to province. One thing is they are not required to re-imburse you for aftermarket expenses (tinted windows etc)
As for oil, if you read your owners manual it specifically says you can do the oil yourself. You can run synthetic, or any other you want, but there are requirements. It has to meet the certain standards (API seal on bottle (which is like the industry standard) and according to them you have to maintain the grade. It calls for 5W20, so you have to use 5W20. To be honest I use 5W30 Mobil 1...which far surpasses its ratings for wear and viscosity (API) The oil flows better in the winter then conventional oil..and it works better in hotter temperatures than the 5W20. Plus there is no way really for them to check to ensure. The Filter has to pass the tests again, but if you spend the money on a decent filter you can be sure it will meet their single-pass ratings. The easiest way to cover yourself for warranty for oil changes and anything else is to document the date and milage in your book, make sure you follow their requirement and keep the receipts for the materials or work done so that you can prove you have followed it.
Hope this sheds some light on the subject of warranties. Dont let the not-so honest dealers get away with it.....Force them to service and stand behind the vehicle they sell!

Hey the information-Its all stuck inside me just waiting to get out! lol
Actually I have heard of problems like this before I even could drive a car. I knew about some of the laws and stuff like that I wasnt sure. When I bought my car I ran into a couple little things with the dealer and also I really enjoy working and servicing my cars myself (Im an engineer by trade). I wanted to make sure I could do it without that sort of hassle so I did some research. What I gave is just the tip of the iceberg, there is so much more information out there. You have to find out what your local and state or provincal laws protect. Some places have alot more protection, some alot less. In the end I just hate seeing people get stuck holding the end of the stick cause a dealership is shady or too lazy too look into the problem. I am currently fighting with my dealer trying to get some resolve over tranny problems. Mine sticks, and kicks out of gear when I push the clutch in. When its cold the first-second gear shifting is terrible and it grinds and clunks yet they tell me this is normal and there is nothing wrong....So Im having to escalate the problem to get this resolved as Im not gonna have a tranny and/or clutch worn out early for something that doesnt even have 10,000 km on it!
