I was heading towards Richmond Hill last night.. it was on the 403 to 401 ramp, when this superhero in a 2003 Corolla cut me off bad! With 5 people in it too.. dumb schmuck.. so I started to chase him down.. kept up with him.. was right up his *** all the way around the ramp. Give credit to the Eibach Pro-Kits, good BF goodrich rubber and my corner carving skills.
But as soon as the road opened up straight, he punched it, and DAMN.. he pulled on me H A R D.. I'll tell ya.. I've raced previous versions of Corollas, and it wasn't nearly this quick on the highway. This car went like a mad man, instantly pulling away and away from me. I had it floored, but wasn't doing any good. Scary part was that I was sole, and he had 5 peeps in it. I give major props to the new VVTi motors from Toyota..

before i bought my civic..... i was considering the corolla but the 2003 corolla was WAY too expensive back in the summer time...... so ended up wid the civic...... i test drove it..... the engine is REAL smooth..... toyota really puts their time into their motors...... same wid my buddys IS300...... silky smooth engine......
toyota corolla is a nice car..... but i'm glad i bought a civic...... corolla is too much of a "see lai" car..... (old chinese mother)
toyotas great cars

I was going 140+.. of course stick makes huge difference. But stick is more benifitcal in the city, since you can drop your clutch for better take off. On the highway, stick is only better because of the shorter gearing ratio. Regardless, I was sitting at 5,000rpm+ which is my sweet spot, but it wasn't doing nothing.
Trust me guy... I know a fast car when I see it. Stick or auto, when a guy pulls on your like a bastard when he has 5 people it in, you gotta give him respect. That's like extra 600lb curb weight..
I've raced a lot of stick shift Civics, and never ever been pulled on that hard. I've even beaten older stick Accrords, which are pretty quick in their own rights. But not last night.. got owned.
I don't mean to bring up any stats, but a lot of magazines say Corollas are faster than Civics by anywhere from 0.5s to 1.5s to 1/4 mile.. I believe it now.

no, a Si can never beat a gts unless the gts breakdown or the driver is sleeping or jerking off
, but the Si and a gt come close, gt a little faster but driving skill can turn the table

Auto GT Celica is not fast, not saying Civic are amazingly fast
Please pardon my ignorance but does taking it to the rev limiter, mean to the red line? I just need some clarification there.

Actually in the beginning of the thread, I was just saying how I got smoked by a Corolla.. and for the record, I also got smoked by an auto Corolla in the past (125HP engine).. and I'm shocked to hear other people with automatic Civics claiming they SMOKED Corollas.
Because that means their cars must be WAY faster than mine.. didn't know intake & exhaust did that much for our cars.
I'm speaking from real experience, by owning Corolla, Civic and the Celica.. not by racing somebody who wasn't trying, or by racing somebody that didn't know how to drive.
But anyway, we should get together race for fun.. I'd like to see some fast 7th Gens from here, if there are any (only seen 1 thus far, with aid of nitros oxide)..

And when you drive an automatic, you start out from idle, a tick above 1,000RPM. Floor both off the line, and GT will pull on it before GTS could even hit its "lift" zone. Hence, bye bye GTS.
I mentioned this in the past, but a bunch of Toyota sales guys my brother used to work with took a 4Runner to drag an automatic GTS. The 4Runner outpaced the autoGTS by 14+ car lengths.. why? Because 4Runner's gets 80% of its massive torque at lowly 2,000RPM.
In fact, after drivng an automatic GTS myself, it's about the slowest thing out there.. it hauls *** on the highway, but that's about it.
