Damn Even Corollas Get DOHC
Corolla Data
Damn Recently I always been thinking why is Honda sticking with only 127 hp SOHC, just doesn't make sense........
They leave the DOHC for the SiR...... anywayz enough b!tching, but I just remembered when i got my 2001 Corolla that it said DOHC, at the time i had no idea what that meant, after getting my civic, have I figured it out what it was, not until recently have I remembered the Corolla was DOHC......
Yes the Corolla is a grocery getter and the Civic is way nicer exterior, but the Corolla Engine is WAY better

2003 Corollas, rated at 130HP, pumps 120HP to wheels! Beats our Civics measle 103HP... eesh. But yeah, their engines are very smooth, quiet, and has a very flexible powerband. You can go up very very steep uphills and sitll accelerate, without any downshifting. Definitley the quickest car in its class.
Honda is definitely holding out on Civics.. maybe SOHC will do fine for engines made for fuel economy. They employe SOHC engines for Acura TL and CL as well... DOHC seems to be reserved for more "performance" oriented cars, like Civic SiR, RSX, NSX & S2000.
Despite the lack of horsepower, and SOHC engines, Civics are still selling like crazy. Until there is a major sales drop, or a HUGE performance difference, I don't think we'll be seeing them go DOHC with 1.7L. What I would like to see is a more fuel efficient 2.0L engines, pulled from the SiR and used on all regular Civics. Even a detuned, lowered compression 140-150HP would be nice. Torque always helps everyday driving for sure.

does the corolla with 130HP equate to 100kW (sorry i like to use metric)
but i mean the 100kW comes on at pretty high revs, so you basically have to be thrashing the thing......
drive it the same way we drive out civics i suppose.........

Uhh... Corvettes and Vipers don't even have overhead cams, and they have 2 valves per cylinder... So what? 2 overhead cams rather than 1, whoopdy doo, you obviously don't need any, and you can still put out mad power. The Corolla looks bloated and constipated anyway. It's too tall and the wheel wells look too small.
Yeah..DOHC doesnt necessarily mean more power (in my case it does tho).....
I do like the new corolla tho..it's pretty kewl...and VERY nice interior too....
And as far as torque, ANYTHING has more usable torque than a civic...

Toyota is on a role with Corolla.. the reason why I didn't buy 2001 Corolla at the time I bought my Civic was crummy brakes & crummy handling. It was made for old crusty people. Now it out handles & out brakes Civics.. great stuff. It also out accelerates its.
Just wish they will make coupes again.. remember the old coupes in late 80's with the MR-2 front end? That's one of my favourite 80's car.. oh well. Maybe someday.. And maybe someday Honda will make the lesser cheaper Civics somewhat quick too.

jeebus you guys just throw dohc and sohc around like candy... do you even know what these technologies are?!?
DOHC, or Dual OverHead Camshafts, SOHC or Single OverHead Camshaft, or even Pushrod Setups, DONT MEAN MORE POWER OUTPUT... its all in the tuning

very true....top fuel dragsters are not even OHC's....just big ol' pushrod setups. ALTHOUGH, DOHC setups DO have good power output for street driven cars.....[hr]
