yeah, i saw the angel eye one at pacmall and they were like 400, so when he told me 650 for the tyc, i was like wtf...... but he's definitely going for tyc because he want's that style and he's afraid the other brands will leak or fog up....

yeah, that's what i've been telling him too...... but then again, i guess i've heard a lot more case of the no name brands having major leaks than i have of the tyc........
i've also heard the matrix ones are cool too,, but he wants the tyc style and not the style where the black housing is basically all around the frount and only four holes for the lights...... (don't know how to explain)........
any opinions on the angel eyes?...... yah/nay??

Just don't get Matrix dude. I have them. Here's my opinion.
Matrix looks better, from directly in front.. more aggressive..

But on an angle, TYC much better because you "see more".. whereas Matrix, you sort of can't and starts looking like lightcovers (especelly the black ones).
#1 reason why you shouldn't get Matrix though, is because it uses H3 bulbs for low beam, and they are EXTREMELY dim. Take my word for it. Going to TYC is bad enough, but Matrix is just suicidal, unless you have fog/driving lamps.

they use h3?..... icic.....i've gotta tell him that.....i always thought the projectors would give a much brighter light pattern than the oem ones......
do you know which bulbs the tyc's use?.... any ideas on pricing?.....
thanks for the advice man!

TYCs use H1s, which are a lot brighter. Actually I met up with a guy that had TYCs, and we were comparing.. huge different in the light output! H3s are smaller bulbs, that are typically used in foglamp applications. H1s are for headlamps (I believe the New Beetle uses them).
H3s wouldn't be so bad, if the aftermarket projectors were designed properly. None of the aftermarket lights are properly designed. I actually have a set of Audi S4 projectors, and when I look inside that and look inside the Matrix/TYC, they are totally different. The way it is designed, aftermarket projectors LOSE about 70% of the light source.. which leads to the dimness. S4 projectors utilitize 100% of the light source, with 0% loss.
Pricing wise, I sorta paid a lot, because I ordered from the states. I must've been one of the first to have them... I paid $250US plus shipping ($35US).. which is a lot, after the exchange, Then I got hit with duty fee.. I would never do that again. One of the lights actually keep going out.. sometimes when I hit a pot hole, it comes back on. So it's a connection issue.. but had I bought them in Canada, at least I could have warrenty on it. But since I ordered from a shop in California, I'm out of luck. $400 at Pacific Mall is a decent price.. but if you want a deal, I would hold off on it, since people are always selling them on here.

Ok... so if you compare the TYC's to the Matrix lights, the TYC's are brighter because they use the H1's rather then the smaller H3's. I understand that but the real question is, how do these compare to the OEM lights? I'm interested in the TYC's but I'd hate to loose some visibility and light output to look cool.

Stock lights are better than ANY aftermarket projectors.. if brightness is your top priority, stay with the stocks.

Don't change anything, stick to H4s.

No, you won't be able to do that.. the plugs are different. You could, if you change the plugs by getting H1 harness & plugs and splicing it, but it wouldn't make sense.. too much work, and weird light pattern. Besides, H1 is low beam only..

Only for high beam, it uses H1.. that's why it's semi-bright (plus high beam's not projectors, its multi-reflector)

i disagree...
i've had both the TYCs and the Matrix projectors...
and the TYCs aren't that bright compared to the Matrix projectors....if you get piaa h3 bulbs they are way brighter....
btw...if u want tycs i'm selling mine for $250.

Dude.. they CAME with H3 bulbs. They are NOT H1 like the highbeams... you can clearly tell that they are physically totally different.
Besides, on the bulb's base, it is clearly marked **H3**... on that
