I need help fighting my ticket!!!
Hi everyone, i am fairly new to this site.
Anyways this is what happened........ i was driving home with a bunch of friends on a saterday night at around 2:00am. I was driving on lawrence and then i got pulled over.
The cop told me i was going 95 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. And for those of you who dont know thats a $265 ticket and 4 demerit points.
So i was driving on a very downhill slope and i decided to put it into neutral.... and i guess my car was gaining speed and as i was about to slow down, i realize there is a cop sitting in the middle of the hill.
He pulls me over, and with my luck, my brother had washed the car that day and had taken everything out of the car including hte dash... so the registration and insurance slip were not in the car. I ended up getting 3 tickets... 1 for speeding, 1 for not having owners registration on me, and one for not having the insurance slip on me...... TOTAL = $500
Anyways, at this point i dont care about the money, and i am more concerned with the demerit points. My court date is set for November
I was hoping you guys could give me some advice.... should i fight it? or should i hire somone to fight it for me (if so who should i hire). Please keep in mind this is my first ticket ever....
I would REALLY appreaciate some help on this one.

hiring a lawyer could help....... chances are, they might know the prosecutor and hope he can give you a good deal......... but for the tickets you got, espeically for the speeding one.. it's going to be very hard.... since you got two extra tickets on top of that.
the best the lawyer can do is that he can find loopholes in the statement that the officer wrote....... but you can do that yourself as well, but the lawyers are probably more experienced in that department.............
as for lawyers.... i guess you can try xcopper. there are a lot around the city as well, the independent ones.....
g'luck

The reg and insurance tickets are easy - just bring them to court to show you have them, they usually let you off. The sooner the better for that. The speeding - I agree, take it to court. Maybe the cop won't show up, maybe you can plead it down to fine with no demerits, maybe you can use the "starving student" angle. Really you have nothing to lose by taking it to court, so go git it.
AznSaint had a good idea with getting a lawyer. If you know one, even better. As for the XCopper deal, it's true you don't pay if they can't get you off. But if they DO get you off, expect to pay at least as much as the ticket - they're really only there to help you with demerits, not the fines.

also keep in mind their win or money back policy. a win means a reduction in anything, as in if they reduce your fine, or if they reduce the number of demerits....a win does not mean they get you off totally....
I just got convicted of 80 in 60.... It was a 100 in 60 zone ticket
Damn cop showed up. I had XCopper do it for me, $500... They ended up paying the ticket out of the $500, as per the agreement.
The license and registration one, I had expired license papers (but was still insured), and when I went to speak with the justice of the peace, she looked at my insurance papers, and threw out the ticket.

the problem is that you're 35km/h over the speed limit. the best deal that the prosecutor will make for you is drop it to 79km/h in a 60km/h zone... probably 60 to 80dollar fine...still 3points.... and that's only if the prosecutor is nice, or having a good day.......... other then that, some of them are ****** and act as if they CAN'T do nothing about it....... when they really can. what they choose not to mention is that, THEY COULD CARE LESS ABOUT YOU... so why should they cut you a deal.....
konw what i mean?
*** i was in court early this morning.
was caught speeding last november... i was going like 80km/h in a 50km/h zone... the officer radared me... was going south on bathurst, heading towards st.clair...... i had crossed this bridge and once i came out of the bridge area.. i noticed a cop car, sitting there on a side street... I KNEW, right away i was screwed.... saw the sirens come on, i decided to pull right over before he could even come onto bathurst st. haha...
well, he dropped it to a 60km/h in a 50km/h and a 40.00 fine. no points. i didnt even give any explanation... he was just nice enough to drop it for me. im guessing it was b/c i pulled over so quickly? hhaha.. but other then that, s'all good for me.
but ya.. i set a trial date anyways..... hoping for the officer to not show up. IF he did, i'll just plead guilty and would of probably ask the prosecutor to give me 60days to pay off the 40.00 fine. and give that student story, WHICH I AM anyways.... or, hope for that story to work on the judge.. and maybe he can realize it's a meaningless ticket, even though it's written down that it was dropped from 80km/h to 60km/h
but ya........ the officer didnt show up
sometimes, just gatta hope for a lil' luck.
and i think i asked for a morning trial........ "dont quite remember", but i asked for it b/c at that time, that officer was working night shift............ but shifs for officers always change, so i was basically hoping he was dead tire to show up, or he was on-call on a situation, or that he didnt want to show up to fight a ticket that was only 60km/h in a 50km/h zone....
g'luck again

i honestly believe xcopper is a rip off.. it's pretty much a franchise type of business... better off trying to look for an independent lawyer.
i'll post a number of this independent lawyer that i use to go to.... or go to when i really get screwed over by cops with a bunch of tickets at once..... i'll post it when i find the business card.. still kind of expensive.. but still cheaper then xcopper

don't be upset my friend....I have had some more serious ticket than yours and got my luck out of it. for example: I have posted in March that I have got 2 tickets in King going to Casino Rama....One for 40 over the posted 100 and one for Change lanes in not a safety fasion. I went to court my self and pretended to be a broke *** + a student living on its own; the crown bought my story and I negotiated for them to drop my Speeding which was 4 points+$295 fine......and kept my Lane change ticket which was 2 points....and a $110 fine. totally I saved my self like 4 out of 6 points + a $295.
Oh oh and this other one...I got this careless driving ticket in Downtown and I went to court with a lawyer which cost about $500....which is pretty much useless because the cop didin't show up.
and you know what the tickect I got from Rama...are issued by OPP and they are more harse than Metro PoPos.....so i lucked out there...and also the cop who caught me is a downtown cop and they mostly show up like 85% of the time so I lucked out there too.
the must f**ked up part was the morning I went to court my lawyer was sweating in downtown court.....I asked him "why are yo u sweating" you have my money and I ain't even sweating yet....and he gave me the most ridiculous reply ever: "ah.....it's hot in here" but the AC was on full blast so...I think he was scared!
