i want to change the front speakers to aftermarket, of course.. it'll be the same size. 6.5inch, if im correct

but should i be looking for anything... that for some reason, the aftermarket speakers wont fit?

someone a while ago mentioned something about magnets being to big???

is there certain specs on the size that i could look for so i would know before i buy them>?

Well, I had mine installed before I got good at audio. Afterwards I took a peek and it just looks like they screwed it in the hole. Stock speakers are glued on also.

Some have mentioned needing a spacer to make it fit right, but I think it's only for certain speakers.

some speakers are to think cause our cars door panels are thin...

but the Infinity 6.5 with the matching Tweeters for our cars fit

I am picking up a set of CDT Audio 6.5's tonight, not sure yet what mounting depth they are. In preparation I bought a set of spacers from Metra (they make them now, pretty much the same thing as the Scosche spacers) AND I picked up a pair of OEM speakers, which I proceeded to rip apart so I could use the mounting hardware that was integrated into the ring.
One of these should help me mount the speakers I just bought.

A lot of 6.5" speakers will not fit in our cars since the metal cone frame of the speaker is too large for the hole.. You will either need to cut the hole larger.. OR buy a spacer from Future Shop or Best Buy for like $14.99.

I suggest Best Buy's spacers since Future Shop's spacers are a bit messed up in size and they don't make the hole that much bigger.

Some speakers that do fit in... or if you do cut the hole might have too deep of a magnet that it actually causes the window to hit the speaker when it's winding down.

so either way........ the "spacer" will usually fix your problem if the speakers are too big?

Usually. Just make sure if you make your OWN spacer that it doesn't stick out so far as to interfere with the interior door panel when you try to put it back on.

whtever you buy, make sure to have a listen to them..
if possible, don't commit until you can hear them in the car..

i actually chose the 5.25" components over the 6.5" as they had a sweeter blend and didn't lose any of the mid-bass qualities of the 6.5" driver.. (but that's JL, other drivers are different...nothing beats a "in car" ear test)
3/4" mdf makes a good custom spacer as well..none of that hollow plastic resonance

That reminds me, I'm gonna spray my plastic metra spacers with some sound deadening goo stuff my friend's hookup at Technobay has.

The only problem i faced with my rockfords was that the plastic piece that holds the speaker in the door was to small to take the new speakers, so FS has to make new wooden holders for Moi.

I made my own spacers from some 1/4 inch plywood I had lying around. I also just drilled a pilot hole into the metal where I used metal screws to mount my speakers.

Update - the Metra speaker spacer kit works like a charm! Only modding I had to do was dremel out some of the plastic around the inside of the speaker grille in the doors. And btw, CDTAudio speakers ROCK.
