Sound wise you SHOULD hear the SRI more from inside (closer to you from the engine bay), but CAI I think makes more noise from outside. Andoy is right, more air = more fuel to mix with...but seriously my mileage has not been significantly affected.
I have an Injen myself and it's great...however, if you decide to go AEM you may as well go generic, same design. Injen design sticks the filter in the bumper as opposed to under the battery like the AEM one...and no one has replicated that yet. I kinda prefer the Injen design as it sounds a little safer. That said, you would have to SUBMERGE the filter in water to suck up enough to hydrolock. I installed my CAI in the dead of winter and had it on through the largest snow dumps, not to mention the spring showers we had. No problems at all.

Makes sense if my location vs noise theory is correct....the Injen again sitting enclosed in the bumper, whereas the AEM sitting right out in the open (I'd be rather worried about it being so exposed).
I hear good vs bad with bypass valves. Of course you're not gonna hear any stories about people who have been saved by it cos not many people will know when it kicks in, but there are several horror stories floating about (truth content unknown) of people getting hydrolocked with the bypass valve installed.

Well, the bypass valve is like a condom, it only protects againts so much, and there's always a % chance that a baby will sip through and your engine gets maternity.
I like my AEM.....I had the AEM generic CAI before the Genuine AEM and the Genuine AEM is wayyyyyyyyy louder. and the piping diameter is bigger.......and it sounds better......I havent had a problem with it yet, but then when i'm driving in the rain, I keep my eyes WIDE open to make sure I dont hit HUGE potholes full of water and HUGE puddles
