Chirping
I have a questions about chirping and clutch. When my car was fairly new, I was able to chirp at a mere 3000RPM's sometimes. Now I'm having problems chirping at 4000RPM's. Does this have to do with my clutch going? I dont do hard launches ever, and rarely downshift. It's only got about 4800 miles
i dont understand when u chirp...do u chirp when u shift to second gear? do u chirp when u launch front start, rev it to 3k and release the cluth, or do u engage first gear, drive slowly to 3k rpm, then floor it and get a little chirping sound? plz clarify when u chirp, thanks

well it all depends on the tires, and how u shift, i can get it to chirp if i kinda gas it a little before i release the clutch when shifting in second, close to redline
bigger rims or different tires can affect that... yea be more specific cause many factors can cause this .... shifting different, leting the clutch up and different times and speeds... lol tons of stuff attribute to this... you gotta go into more detail.

Sorry guys, what I mean by chirp is when I shift from 1st to 2nd. I was able to shift at 3000, get into 2nd, dump the clutch and put a little more than half throttle and be able to chirp when the car was fairly new. Redlining and shifting into 2nd and chirping is not a problem. Thanks

Chirping is being extra mean to your transmission. Ist just like droping the clutch from a stand still. YOU MEANIES@! Be nice to your trannie, and it will be nice to you.

Yeah, I definately understand the wheel spin/burn outs do more than kill transmission. I always wondered if dumping the clutch and then having the tranny and car serk was a good thing.

sorry, meant jerk...
Umm... I kinda know it's bad... however, I have sat in 3 SMG cars, and 2 of them make really harsh shifts no matter what RPM. What are your opinions on those?

how can chirping be hard on the tranny when its only roughing out the tires? i could understand chirping and reving up to like 6000 rpm is bad, but not at a low rpm. explain zzyzx

If your chirping at a low rpm, you need to get some stickyer tires. Caus the ones you have, probably dont have any grip. (or your driving on slipery roads) When I autocross, I launch at about 3200 RPM's any more and Ill chirp/spin the tires and loose time. If your chirping 2nd. thats the same as dropping the clutch on a drag launch at about 5000-6000 Rpm's. Shure the Transmission is all ready spinning, but you are applying enough power through the trannie in an instant to over power the tires. Thats allways bad. Both on your clutch and the transmission.

Mmmm... I get what youre saying now ZZ. Thanks. My car is only a year old and I dont need to change the tires, but I would like stickier ones. I dont do hard launches ever. The highest I ever launched by accident was 2000.
