Which Motor to Turbo S or R

I posted this in the tech section but nobody answered so hopefully......

when i pay off my vic i was going to do a swap. Are the rsx-s and -r motors the same motor with just higher compression ratio on the R? or is there more to it. I ask because i know it has the same size.

And the reason that i am asking is because i would like to boost it and if they were the same motor with just higher compression then i'm guessing it would be better/cheaper to get the S motor.

Any other thoughts on which way to go with a turbo for a motor. THanks

I would get the S, and put the Jackson Supercharger on it. The RSX has the same problem that we have, and cant run very high boost. But, with just I/H/E and the jackson supercharger at 5 psi, whp was put up to 217. Put the Hondata ECU on that and you have 230whp. then if you want to get real fancy, get cam shafts and the gears, flywheel, clutch, and a short shifter. Roughly 237whp...that will be PLENTY of hp...the thing about even that much hp is hookin up on a launch. You can turbocharge and get, i think i read, close to 275-300whp...but you wont be able to get traction. Supercharge is the way to go, and worry about getting big rims and tires. Just my thoughts,
Cheers

No such thing as a K20A1.

As for the question- if you want to turbo, get a K20A3(base/si engine). Lowest CR in the K20A series.
for all motor youd want the R motor, which is the K20A...turboing that without lowering the CR or upgrading the block is just asking for trouble.

Well if i was going to go all motor i'd go with the k20a wouldnt I?
Neo, is there any difference between the a and a3 besides compression ratios? I know it would be more $$$ but if i got the K20A and put lower compression pistons in would i be starting off better than just going with the k20A3?

i beleave the k20a3 has a different manifold than the k20a2 (plastic possibly)

check this link out, it should help you to understand the K series block a little better. The K20A and K20A3 are waaaaay different....at the head at least...that page can explain it way better than I could..best way to put it is the A3 was built towards fuel economy and does not flow as well.. also Hawk, the K20A3 in the RSX has the plastic im which works similar to the GSR manifold to produce more torque, however the K20A3 in the Si has the same im as the RSX-S, which causes the lower torque numbers.

Hm, I never knew the intake manifolds were different between those K20A3 engines but it does explain the torque difference.

I agree with both of them... the RSX motor isn't the one to turbo.
